Article L. 311-5 of the French Consumer Code

A loan commits you and must be repaid. Check your repayment capacity before committing.

Article L. 311-17 of the French Consumer Code

As long as the transaction has not been definitively concluded, no payment, in any form or on any account whatsoever, may be made by the lender to the borrower or on the borrower's behalf, nor by the borrower to the lender. During the same period, the borrower may not make any deposit in favour of the lender or on the lender's behalf in connection with the transaction in question. If a direct debit authorisation on the borrower's bank or postal account is signed by the borrower, its validity and entry into force are subject to those of the credit agreement.

Article L. 321-1 of the French Consumer Code

Any agreement by which an intermediary undertakes or proposes, for remuneration, to: examine the situation of a debtor with a view to establishing a repayment plan; seek, on behalf of a debtor, the obtaining of payment deferrals or debt relief; or intervene, on behalf of the debtor, in any form whatsoever, for the purposes of the over-indebtedness procedure, shall be null and void as of right.

Article L. 321-2 of the French Consumer Code

No payment of any kind whatsoever may be required from a private individual prior to obtaining one or more monetary loans.

Article L. 331-2 of the French Consumer Code

The over-indebtedness commission is responsible for dealing with the over-indebtedness situation of natural persons, characterised by the manifest impossibility for a good-faith debtor to meet all of their non-professional debts, both due and forthcoming. The amount of repayments resulting from the application of Articles L. 331-6 or L. 331-7 is set by reference to the attachable portion of salary, so that a portion of the resources necessary for the household's current expenditure is reserved for it as a priority.
